March Chapter Update
Over the past few months, the Purple Nation’s ranks have been swelling! With every passing meet-ing, I see more and more new faces ready and will-ing to show the lodge that Gokhos is the number 1 chapter! In January, we had members step up to be an elangomat, and many new members join our Chapter. With plenty of work to keep us busy, we helped improve one of our local scout camps. At the ordeal, we also had members on both the ceremonies and drum team perform for the first time.
Many of our members who sought out to seek service opportunities were granted the experience at the Heron Grill, Indian Village, and the Coconut Grove Arts Festival. I am proud of all the members that came to help support the lodge, and raise money for the Hal Hollis NOAC fund! We also showed up at the Lodge Banquet, fervently fighting to claim first in every event. Members showed that they would not go down without a fight!
We meet at Plantation United Methodist Church at 7:00 on the fourth Monday of every month.
December Update
The Gokhos Nation is overflowing with purple pride! Since my last update we have participated in many different events, giving service to the council, lodge, and district. At every meeting, we have greater attendance. As the Chief I have more pride than ever in my chapter, and am reminded constantly why I wanted this job as more and more members ask how they can serve their community. We have helped out at Cub Fun Day north by serving food, and helping man the canoe station. We set up a fantastic display for the Haunted Forest, with zombies as our theme. We helped serve Pine Island Districts holiday pot luck. We also participated in the first Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale's Thanksgiving Basket Project. We helped deliver over 200 Thanksgiving meals to those in need, and is definitely an experience that I and all Chapter members that attended will remember for a life time.
We meet at Plantation United Methodist Church at 7:00 on the fourth Monday of every month.
September Chapter Update
The Gokhos chapter is happy to report an awesome start to the scouting year! We have already had three meetings! During the meetings we have accom-plished a lot by preparing for the Fall Ordeal, and Haunted Forest. Members are once again looking forward to showing off their purple pride at lodge events. As chapter chief, I am very proud of those who have stepped up and taken on extra responsibilities.
All of our members are looking forward to a new year of cheerful service. So much so, that four members of Gokhos volunteered to be an Elangomat at the Fall Or-deal! We cannot wait for the Haunted Forest, Gokhos is sure to have an amazing show!
On another note, we are changing our meeting date and location. From now on we will be meeting on the fourth Monday of every month at Plantation United Methodist Church. If there’s any changes I’ll be sure to let you know in the e-mails.
Welcome to a new year!
The new 2011-2012 Gokhos Chapter leaders are: Mac E., Chapter Chief; Joe D., 1st Vice-Chief; Brian P., 2nd Vice-Chief and Jordan B. is the Chapter Secretary. Our Chief just attended NAYLE, National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience training at Philmont Training Center. For those of you that attended or helped out at NYLT this year got to meet Mac, as he was this year’s youth Course Director. All of the Chapter officers, Joe, Brian and Jordan are attending summer camp with their Troops. I am heading off to Summit Corps this weekend and then off again to Indian Summer with my brother Jordan in August. We held our first Chapter Meeting of the new Lodge year on the Monday night after the Summer Ordeal. It was well attended as Mac gave us his vision for the Chapter and got other Arrowmen to step up to help with Haunted Forest and other Chapter Committees. The officers will meet soon and plan out the schedule and location for the next couple of meetings. All of their decisions will be published in the summer edition of the Gokhos Gazette. Look for it in you inbox about the middle of June. Best wishes to everyone in the Lodge from your friends in the Gokhos Nation!

March 2011 Update
In January the Chapter had a great turnout at the Winter Ordeal. We are very proud of the fact that Gokhos Chapter had 21 new Ordeal members go through the Ordeal and join our Brotherhood! Some members of our Chapter participated in the Bare Foot Mailman’s hike, the Special Olympics held at Traz Powell Stadium, the Lodge Indian Village at Scoutmasters Camporee and we also cooked and fed Scoutmaster’s Camporee Staff during the weekend. We plan to make generous donations to the Joseph Aaron Abbot Campership Fund and the Hal Hollis Fund at the next LEC meeting. We have also provided community service by having several Chapter Members participate in the “Power of One Hour” community clean-up. After the Power of One Hour clean-up was over, we had several Chapter members join with other OA Brothers helping with the Adopt a Street road cleanup on Boy Scout Road. We also provided support to the Sea Scouts Commodores Cup by cooking. It was held at John B Lloyd State Park and the U.S. Coast Guard facility at Port Everglades. In March the Chapter attended the Lodge Banquet where several of our Chapter members were recognized. Other Chapter members were providing Staff support to the NYLT that is being held at the Hut 69 location in Silver Palms. We had a great Chapter meeting this month and are getting ready to go to Section Conference.
