Chiefly Speaking - March 2013
Brothers,
The 2013 O-Shot-Caw Lodge Banquet has come and gone. With the support of the lodge we put on an amazing program. The morning had many informative training sessions, while the afternoon held rigorous competitions for the chapters. Upon nightfall the Banquet began and we entertained family and friends of the arrowmen.
With the first vice chief at work the training sessions for the weekend began. O-Shot-Caw woke up early and showed its eagerness to learn and better their chapters. Arrowmen had the opportunity to learn about the lodge master system, and run a successful chapter.
When competition time came, our chapters showed in full force. With excitement in the air chapters competed in some of the traditional Chapter vs. Chapter and some new activities to help prepare for the upcoming Section Conference. At the end of the day the To-Hopki-Lagi Chapter went home with the Tom Tatham spirit award.
Come Banquet time the Chapters all gathered together to celebrate the accomplishments of the year. The Pooca-tooka chapter provided refreshments and helped with clean-up. At the end of the night we had 5 brothers tapped out for the prestigious Vigil Honor. Matthew C., Connor L., Aaron K., Jose Kudja, and Kyle S. were all tapped out. Congratulations to them all.
Upcoming we have our section conference and I hope to see you all there. It will be held at the Flaming Arrow Scout Reservation on April 12-14. If You have any questions contact your chapter chief.
Yours in Brotherhood,
Kyle S.

O-Shot-Caw Lodge put on so much during this Winter season. We had a beautiful Winter Ordeal weekend at Camp Everglades. We also put on a massive Indian Display at both Lincoln-Marti Camporee and Scoutmas-ter's Camporee. O-Shot-Caw Lodge had an amazing banquet and selected very suitable leaders for recipients for the Founder's Award and Vigil Honor.
The Winter Ordeal was held January 6-8, 2012, at Camp Ever-glades. It was a great weekend with gorgeous weather, great food, awe-some fellowship, and cheerful service. Our largest project was the con-struction of a pole barn for the camp tractor. We inducted over 100 new members and about two dozen brothers sealed their ties in Brotherhood . Congratulations to all new brothers and Brotherhood members! This year we provided a heavy presence at Lincoln-Marti Cam-poree and Scoutmaster's Camporee. Lincoln-Marti was much bigger than last year and Ryan Rodriguez did an excellent job heading the Indian Vil-lage there. Many people learned about native American culture and also learned more about our order. The display was so busy that we ran out of t-shirts an hour before we closed. Thank you Kyle Senzig for running a great Indian Village.
Recently, the O-Shot-Caw Lodge Banquet was held on March 2-4 at the Heron Preserve in Markham Park. Congratulations to all members whom sealed their ties in Brotherhood on Friday night. I would like to thank all instructors that made the seminars successful and informative, and thank you to all the chapters for amazing spirit shown. I am also very happy to congratulate our newest brothers who were selected for the Vigil Honor: Gabe Guttierez, Chris Alvarez, Andrew Crowe, Jonathan McEwan, Andres Badel, and Frank Gamez. These are real leaders in ser-vice to our lodge. Congratulations!
One of the most fun events of the year is the 2012 Section Confer-ence! The event is to be held at Wallwood Scout Reservation on April 20-22, 2012. This is an opportunity for O-Shot-Caw to prove we are still the best. We will remind Section S4 who O-Shot-Caw is!
Chiefly Speaking - December 2011
I hope you all had a wonderful, fun, and safe Holiday season. It has been a success-ful year and O-Shot-Caw is now ready to take on 2012 and the new Journey to Excellence set forth by the OA National Committee. Reflect-ing on the recent however. We recently held or attended some successful events like Haunted Forest and Section Seminars.
On October 22, 2011, at the Heron Preserve in Markham Park, the O-Shot-Caw Lodge held our annual Haunted Forest, one of the largest service events in scouting. Over the course of a day, Arrowmen put together a massive display to entertain Cub Scouts and families across south Florida. The 2011 Haunted Forest was ex-tremely successful due to all of the hard work and dedication from the brothers of O-Shot-Caw Lodge. Our lodge raised an astonishing $21,000 to support the Joseph Aaron Abbott Campership Fund! This helps to make it possible for scouts with financial needs to attend summer camp.
Following the Haunted Forest, O-Shot-Caw Lodge attended the Sec-tion S4 Seminars. It was a chilly weekend, but still very fun. The weekend was hosted by Echockotee Lodge and they did an excellent job running the event.
It is that time of year to pay your annual dues! Please log on to www.o-shot-caw.org and renew your commitment. Just around the corner is the Winter Ordeal, at Camp Everglades on January 4-6, followed by a lodge presence at the Lincoln-Marti Camporee on January 20-22, and an Indian Village display at Scoutmaster’s Camporee on February 17-19. I can't wait to see you all out there! It is my pleasure to announce that the O-Shot-Caw Lodge #265 is a National Quality Lodge for 2011! This is an outstanding achievement for our lodge; it is something we aim for because it is the vision the Order of the Arrow has for Brotherhood, Cheerfulness, and Service.
It has been an extraordinary year for us. I have enjoyed serving as your chief and I look forward to continuing that service in 2012.
Jonathan Yost
O-Shot-Caw Lodge Chief
