Chiefly Speaking

Chiefly Speaking - September 2011

Summer has come to a close, and now we embrace Autumn. We return to school and also return to our scouting activities. The O-Shot-Caw Lodge had our official kick off LEC meeting in August and just a couple days later LLD. But these events were after a very busy summer for our lodge. But first, let's look even further back, to our lodge’s triumph at Section Conference. Section Conference was held this past April at Tanah-Keeta Scout Reservation. O-Shot-Caw Lodge had an incredible weekend and we would like to thank our fellow brothers and neighbors in Aal-Pa-Tah Lodge for an incredible weekend. When Sunday morn-ing rolled around O-Shot-Caw was awarded the Best All Around Lodge trophy along with the Spirit Award. Such a finish is only fit for a great lodge. After the awards, two fellow O-Shot-Caw brothers won leadership positions in the section: Frank Gamez as our Section Chief and Alan Randall as our Secretary.

Summer Ordeal was held at Vista View Park in June. This event marked the beginning of Summer. The lodge got together to build 30 picnic table for our soon-to-be opened Camp Elmore. Congratulations to all new brothers whom were inducted at this ordeal, I'm proud of how you worked diligently to serve cheerfully. On Sunday, the lodge chose five youth leaders to serve as the 2011-2012 Lodge Officers. They are myself as Lodge Chief, Kyle Senzig as First Vice, Ryan Rodriguez as Second Vice, Matthew Braun as Secretary, and Joey Anderson as Treasurer! Over the Summer, O-Shot-Caw Lodge participated in two national events: SummitCorps and Indian Summer. SummitCorps, held in July 2011, was very similar to Arrow Corps5 and Four Corps, held in 2008 and 2010 respec-tively. O-Shot-Caw Lodge took one of the largest contingents to this event. We spent our days providing cheerful service to the New River Gorge National River in West Virginia. After SummitCorps, the Lodge went to Ridgecrest Conference Centre in North Carolina for Indian Summer. This was a week of American In-dian Activities, Inductions, Ceremonies, Fun, Fellowship, Tribe rivalries, and O-Shot-Caw ice cream gatherings at Nibble Nook. If you don't know what Nib-ble Nook is, well find a brother that went to Indian Summer and ask!

In August, O-Shot-Caw Lodge held our annual Lodge Leadership Devel-opment. This year we had a location change. It was held August 20, 2011 at the West Broward Masonic Lodge. The day was extremely productive as we trained our new and returning O-Shot-Caw Leadership. The topic of focus this year: Inductions.

Coming up is our Fall Ordeal, and soon after our Haunted Forest, both to be held at Markham Park. I will look forward to another amazing lodge year, thank you for electing me to serve you one more year as your chief. I won't let you down! See you at the Fall ordeal and Haunted Forest!

Yours in Brotherhood,
Jonathan Y.

Chiefly Speaking - June 2011

Since the last edition of the Patchwork, the O-Shot-Caw Lodge has been busy doing many great things. The Lodge continued our legacy at Section Conference and selected new Leadership at Summer Ordeal.

O-Shot-Caw had an incredible attendance at the 2011 Section S4 Conference held at Tanah-Keeta Scout Reservation near Jupiter, FL. This is where we made our presence known as we filled the camp with our cheers and spirit. We put all our effort into the competitions. When Sunday morning rolled around O-Shot-Caw was awarded for the second time in a row, the Best All Around Lodge trophy along with the Spirit Award. Such a finish is only fit for a great lodge. After the awards, Frank Gamez ran for Section Chief and won. Also, Alan Randall ran for Section Secretary and won. Congratulations to the two of them!

The Summer Ordeal was held at Vista View Park at the beginning of June. Our main project was to build picnic tables for the imminent opening of Camp Elmore (Seminole).

Congratulations to all new Brothers whom were inducted at this Ordeal, I'm proud of how you worked diligently to serve cheerfully. On Sunday, the Lodge chose five youth leaders to serve as the 2011-2012 Lodge Officers. They are myself as Lodge Chief, Kyle Senzig as First Vice, Ryan Rodriguez as Second Vice, Matthew Braun as Secretary, and Joseph Anderson as Treasurer.

The future brings some awesome events. The first is the LEC on August 18th, then Lodge Leadership Development, or LLD, two days later. The LLD will be held at the West Broward Masonic Lodge in Pembroke Pines on August 20th, where those seeking leadership in O-Shot-Caw Lodge can sharpen their leadership skills.

I am so proud to serve one more year as your Lodge Chief. My brothers, O-Shot-Caw has continued its legacy as the Best All-Around Lodge. We will be having a great year this year.

Chiefly Speaking - January 2011

I hope you all had a wonderful, fun, and safe Holiday season. It has been a successful year and O-Shot-Caw is looking to 2011 without fear. The Lodge has been right on track continuing down the path of cheerful service. We recently held or attended some successful events like Haunted Forest, Section Seminars, and the Scout Show.

On October 23, 2010, at Markham Park, O-Shot-Caw Lodge held our annual Haunted Forest, one of the largest service events in scouting. Over the course of a day, Arrowmen put together a massive display to entertain Cub Scouts and families across South Florida. The 2010 Haunted Forest was extremely successful due to all of the hard work and dedication from the Brothers of O-Shot-Caw Lodge. Our Lodge raised an astonishing $20,000 to support the Joseph Aaron Abbott Campership Fund which helps to make it possible for Scouts with financial needs to attend summer camp.

Following the Haunted Forest, O-Shot-Caw Lodge attended the Section S4 Seminars. It was a chilly weekend, but still lots of fun. The weekend was hosted by Timuquan Lodge and they did an excellent job running the event.

In December our Lodge volunteered to help with the South Florida Council Scout Show. O-Shot-Caw had an Indian Village display where young scouts got the opportunity to learn more about the Drum Team, Dance Team, and the Order of the Arrow.
It is that time of year to pay your annual dues. Please log on to o-shot-caw.org and make your payment. Just around the corner are many exciting events. I can't wait to see you all out there!

It is my pleasure to announce that O-Shot-Caw Lodge #265 is a National Quality Lodge for 2010. This is an outstanding achievement for our Lodge, it is something we aim for because it is the vision the Order of the Arrow has for Brotherhood, Cheerfulness, and Service.

It has been an extraordinary year for us. I have enjoyed serving as your Chief and I look forward to serving you in 2011.
